Leadership focus
Key issues & motivation
Key issue(s)
I am deeply passionate about addressing the structural and social challenges that limit the potential of women and girls. Specifically, I am committed to: a. Expanding leadership and decision-making opportunities for women I believe women deserve equal representation and influence in spaces where decisions are made. I am passionate about efforts that build confidence, leadership skills, and visibility for women at all levels. b. Reducing gender inequality and harmful cultural norms Women and girls continue to face discrimination that restricts their rights, choices, and opportunities. I am strongly motivated to support initiatives that challenge these barriers and promote fairness, dignity, and inclusion. c. Supporting economic empowerment for women Economic independence is key to improving the lives of women and their families. I care deeply about programs that provide skills, resources, and opportunities for women to earn income and become financially secure. d. Improving access to education and personal development for girls Education transforms lives. I am passionate about ensuring that girls have the support, mentorship, and opportunities they need to grow, learn, and build a strong future.
Motivation
I was motivated to participate in the Women Leading the Change Cohort because of my strong commitment to deepening my leadership capacity and expanding my ability to create meaningful, community-driven impact. This cohort offers a unique and empowering space to learn from accomplished women leaders, gain practical leadership skills, and build a supportive network that fosters both personal and professional growth. I am particularly inspired by the opportunity to strengthen my confidence, refine my leadership voice, and acquire tools that will enable me to contribute more effectively to initiatives focused on women’s empowerment and inclusive community development. Being part of this cohort will equip me to lead with greater clarity, purpose, and accountability, while positioning me to mentor, inspire, and uplift other women. Ultimately, my participation will contribute to sustainable, long-term change by advancing women’s leadership at the community level and beyond.
Leadership philosophy
I define leadership as the ability to inspire, influence, and support others toward a shared purpose. For me, leadership is rooted in service, empathy, and accountability. It is not defined by titles or positions, but by the ability to create an inclusive environment where people feel valued, heard, and empowered to contribute their strengths. My leadership approach is collaborative and people-centered. I believe in leading by example by demonstrating integrity, consistency, and respect in every interaction. I place strong emphasis on active listening, open communication, and shared decision-making, as I believe sustainable and impactful solutions emerge from collective wisdom. I also view leadership as a continuous journey of learning and growth. Through self-awareness, reflection, and openness to feedback, I strive to improve myself and better support those I lead. Ultimately, my goal as a leader is to build trust, nurture potential, and inspire others to take ownership of positive change within their communities and beyond
Research project
Title of Your Research Project: Evaluating Gender inequities and inclusion in political participation.
This research explores the persistent gender inequities that limit women’s inclusion and active participation in political processes in North-East Nigeria. Although many women demonstrate high levels of political awareness and interest, their involvement in leadership and decision-making remains constrained by cultural norms, economic disadvantages, insecurity, and institutional barriers. These challenges continue to marginalize women’s voices and restrict their influence within political systems. This issue is significant because inclusive political participation is central to democratic governance, social justice, and sustainable development. When women are excluded from political spaces, governance structures fail to reflect diverse perspectives, resulting in policies that inadequately address the needs of women, families, and communities. Strengthening women’s political inclusion is therefore essential to improving accountability, equity, and long-term development outcomes. Through this study, I seek to contribute practical, evidence-based insights that can inform gender-responsive policies and programs. The research aims to support initiatives that challenge discriminatory norms, promote inclusive political structures, expand civic and voter education, and strengthen women’s leadership through mentorship, advocacy, and capacity-building efforts. Ultimately, this work advocates for a political environment where women can engage safely, confidently, and equally in political decision-making, contributing to more inclusive governance and lasting social change.
Target beneficiaries
The primary beneficiaries of this research are women and girls in North-East Nigeria who face structural, cultural, and institutional barriers to meaningful political participation. This includes young women, grassroots women leaders, and women from marginalized and conflict-affected communities whose voices are often excluded from decision-making processes. Secondary beneficiaries include civil society organizations, women’s advocacy groups, and community-based organizations working to promote gender equality, civic engagement, and inclusive governance. Policymakers, political institutions, and electoral bodies will also benefit from the evidence generated, which can inform gender-responsive policies, reforms, and programs. Additionally, the broader community stands to gain from more inclusive political participation, as increased women’s representation contributes to improved governance, social accountability, and development outcomes that reflect the needs of families and communities as a whole.
Expected impact
This research is expected to contribute actionable, evidence-based insights that advance gender equity and inclusive political participation in North-East Nigeria. By systematically identifying the social, cultural, economic, and institutional barriers affecting women’s political engagement, the study will provide a strong foundation for informed policy dialogue and programmatic interventions. Key intended outcomes include increased awareness and commitment among policymakers, electoral bodies, and civil society actors to address gender gaps in political participation. The findings are expected to inform the development of targeted strategies such as gender-responsive civic education, leadership and mentorship programs for women, and reforms that promote safer, more accessible political spaces. In the medium to long term, this work aims to support improved representation of women in leadership and decision-making roles, strengthened confidence and leadership capacity among women, and increased community acceptance of women’s political participation. Ultimately, the research seeks to contribute to more inclusive governance systems, enhanced accountability, and sustainable development outcomes that reflect the voices, priorities, and lived experiences of women and their communities.
