Leadership focus
Key issues & motivation
Key issue(s)
I am deeply passionate about women and youth inclusion, education, technology, environmental and public health, climate change and creating opportunities for economic growth. I also care strongly about the barriers women face in civic leadership, especially exclusion from decision-making spaces. These issues continue to silence women’s voices, weaken their confidence, and hinder their full participation in society.
Motivation
I was motivated to join the Women Leading the Change Cohort because I believe women must be at the center of Africa’s transformation. This program offers a unique opportunity to strengthen my leadership, expand my advocacy and research skills, and connect with women driving impact across the country.
Leadership philosophy
I believe leadership is the ability to inspire people toward a shared purpose while creating space for others to grow, contribute, and lead in their own right. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and community-centered. I lead by listening first, understanding people’s lived experiences, and responding with empathy and evidence. I see leadership not as a position, but as service. I value integrity, inclusion, and accountability, and I prioritize building trust.
Research project
EVALUATING THE IMPACTS OF STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION IN WOMEN'S PARTICIPATION AND REPRESENTATION IN CIVIC LEADERSHIP IN NIGERIA
Women’s participation and representation in civic leadership in Nigeria remain significantly low across the six geopolitical zones, despite national and international commitments to gender equality. Structural barriers such as patriarchal norms, limited access to political networks, misinformation, and gender-based violence continue to silence women’s voices and restrict their engagement in public decision-making. While various interventions have been introduced to promote women’s leadership, one critical yet underexplored factor is the role of strategic communication in shaping public perception, influencing policy discourse, and mobilizing support for women’s political inclusion. This research evaluates how strategic communication affects women’s participation and representation in civic leadership across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. It examines both the opportunities and challenges in how messages are constructed, delivered, and received within diverse cultural and socio-political contexts. The study is important because communication not only informs but also shapes norms, attitudes, and behaviours that determine whether women are perceived as capable leaders. By identifying effective communication strategies and gaps, this research seeks to offer evidence-based recommendations for policymakers, civil society organizations, and gender advocates. Ultimately, the study aims to contribute to more inclusive and impactful communication approaches that amplify women’s voices, challenge harmful stereotypes, and support greater participation of women in leadership and governance across Nigeria.
Target beneficiaries
The primary beneficiaries of this research are women and young women aspiring to participate in civic leadership across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Additionally, policymakers, media practitioners, and development partners stand to gain from evidence that helps shape more inclusive narrative frameworks and gender-responsive communication policies. Finally, the study benefits local communities, as improved representation of women in leadership contributes to more responsive governance, social cohesion, and equitable development.
Expected impact
This research aims to generate actionable knowledge that strengthens how strategic communication is used to promote women’s civic participation in Nigeria. Improved advocacy tools, Enhanced visibility and confidence and strengthened policy engagement.
