Abstract

This study examines how strategic communication influences women’s participation and visibility in leadership across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Guided by Framing Theory and Feminist Communication Theory, the research used surveys, Key Informant Interviews, and
content analysis, drawing data from a probability-based sample of 883 respondents. Research instruments were validated through expert review, with reliability confirmed at Cronbach’s Alpha values of 0.70 and above. Findings show high awareness of strategic communication promoting women’s civic engagement, with social media identified as the most impactful channel. Chi-square and regression results reveal a significant relationship between exposure to communication campaigns and willingness to participate in leadership. Qualitative
insights highlight the influence of media framing, advocacy, and mentorship, though sociocultural and institutional barriers remain persistent. The study concludes that strategic communication is a strong catalyst for improving women’s civic leadership in Nigeria.
